The Music of Bruce Springsteen

The Band

Steve Leftridge

Steve Leftridge - lead vocals, rhythm guitar & harmonica

Steve Leftridge is a veteran of the St. Louis, Columbia, and Springfield cover band scenes and has been making music with guitarist Justin Burch for over 20 years. Steve also teaches literature and film at Webster Groves High School and is a staff writer for PopMatters, writing record and concert reviews. Leftridge considers it a privilege to work with the terrific musicians in Asbury Park, playing such a varied set of fun and powerful music.

Justin Burch

Justin Burch - lead guitar, backing vocals

Justin Burch is a longtime veteran of the St Louis and Springfield (MO) area music scenes, and has played with original and cover bands in a variety of genres from indie to country. When approached by Steve Leftridge to play in a Springsteen cover band, it only seemed natural, given the wide range of styles Bruce represents. When he's not raising the roof with Asbury Park, Burch resides in Springfield, MO, where he is employed by the national media and teaches guitar lessons.

Paul Johnson

Paul Johnson - bass

Paul Johnson has been playing bass guitar in a variety of bands over the past 17 years including Colorspace, The Charmers, The Ruckus, Twisted Image, Beaver Soup, and now Asbury Park. His playing is influenced by classic rock greats like Jon Paul Jones, Noel Redding, Paul McCartney, and John Entwistle. The melodic lines created by Garry Tallent are a natural fit for Paul’s playing style. He endorses Ampeg amplifiers, Fender basses, Goez Instrument Repair, and anything done in the name of rock n’ roll.

Jake Elking

Jake Elking - keyboards

Over the past decade, Jake Elking has been playing keyboards for multiple groups throughout the St. Louis area. Better known for his production work in electronic groups such as Buz & Dual Boot, his jazz and classical roots help in filling the shoes of the Bittan/Federici tandem. When he's not jamming out to the Boss or playing with the live/electronic hybrid of Buz, you can find Elking in groups such El Monstero, the Incurables and others.

Bob Bennett

Bob Bennett - saxophone & backing vocals

A lifelong Springsteen fan, saxophonist Bob Bennett is known mainly for his work in the St. Louis jazz scene. He was music director and on-air talent for St. Louis' only jazz station, 88.7FM, WSIE, from 1998 until the fall of 2007, working alongside Hall Of Fame broadcaster Leo Chears, "The Man in the Red Vest", until Chears' passing in 2006. In June of 2000, Bennett became the director of operations for Jazz St. Louis, taking over day-to-day operations of their venue Jazz at the Bistro. While at the Bistro, Bennett has helped the club develop a reputation as one of the leading jazz clubs in the world and and has worked with some of the biggest names in jazz including Sonny Rollins, Harry Connick, Jr., Dianne Reeves, John Scofield and Joshua Redman. In addition, Bennett has performed with legendary musicians such as Les McCann, the Yellowjackets and Christian McBride.

Spencer Marquart

Spencer Marquart - drums, percussion & backing vocals

He is also an accomplished rhythm guitarist and writes a monthly music column for his work newsletter.
